Control panels

Custom industrial control panels, built in our UL 508A shop

Gross Automation's panel shop in Brookfield, Wisconsin designs, sources, certifies and builds industrial control panels. Every panel the shop builds goes through its UL 508A program, and UL inspects the shop every quarter.

Most of what we build is custom: a panel designed to your requirement by our own engineering team, or built to your drawings. These are the kinds of panels we build most often. Each page covers what goes into that kind of panel and what we need to quote it.

Pump and lift-station control panels

Simplex and duplex pump control panels and municipal pump-station packages, a regular build for water and wastewater work, including public bids. Pump control panels →

Motor control panels

VFD and drive panels, soft-starter and starter panels, and motor control centers, including repeat MCCs built in multiples. Motor control panels →

Example: a 690 V test-cell line-up for a drive manufacturer's test floor.

PLC and HMI control panels

PLC and HMI panels for machines and processes, and remote SCADA and RTU panels, on ABB, Danfoss, WEG, Beijer and Siemens platforms. PLC and HMI control panels →

Examples: a UL 508A control box for a robotic work cell and outdoor network cabinets for a utility communications program.

Power distribution and generator panels

Generator source and alarm panels, transfer and distribution assemblies, UPS panels and 690 V panels. Power distribution panels →

Examples: generator source alarm panels for a standby-power dealer and transfer-switch and breaker enclosures.

Power-factor correction and harmonic-filter panels

Also built in the shop

  • Heater and temperature-control panels, including heater controller panels with an integrated temperature controller.
  • Conveyor panels.
  • Robot-cell panels, built around the customer's own safety and control components where required.
  • Enclosure modification: cutouts and machining, including NEMA 4X stainless-steel and fiberglass enclosures.
  • Domestic-content assembly: panels assembled to Buy American and Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements for federal and public work.

How every panel is built

  • UL and cUL. Panels are listed for the United States (UL 508A) and for Canada (CSA C22.2 No. 286), under UL File E239160.
  • Rated for where it goes. Each listed panel has its short-circuit current rating determined and marked. SCCR, explained →
  • Documented. Schematics, panel layouts, bills of materials and as-built drawings come from our own engineering team.
  • Brands. ABB and Danfoss are our core lines; we also build with WEG, Beijer, Socomec and Hammond and nVent enclosures, and with other brands where the specification calls for them.
  • Quality system. ISO 9001:2015 certified by SGS. Quality →

Panels from our shop are at work everywhere from family farms to military vessels.

They ship across the United States and internationally. Local service covers southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Service area →
