Pump control panels

Pump and lift-station control panels

Simplex and duplex pump control panels and municipal pump-station packages are a regular build for our shop, mostly for water and wastewater work. Every one goes through the shop's UL 508A program.

What we build

  • Simplex panels control a single pump.
  • Duplex panels control two pumps. Typically the panel alternates which pump starts first, so the wear is shared, and brings on the second pump when one cannot keep up.
  • Pump-station packages for municipal lift and pump stations, built to the project's specification and drawings.
  • Monitoring and telemetry. Where a station reports to a central system, the panel can include a PLC, an operator interface and communications equipment, or we can build a separate remote SCADA or RTU panel. PLC and HMI control panels →

Decisions that shape a pump panel

  • How the motors start. Across-the-line starters, soft starters or variable-frequency drives, depending on the pumps and the specification. Motor control panels →
  • How level is sensed. Float switches, a level transmitter, or both: tell us what the station uses or what the specification calls for.
  • Where the panel lives. Pump panels often sit outdoors, next to the station. The enclosure rating and material, such as NEMA 4X stainless steel or fiberglass, follow from the site.
  • Hazardous locations. We build panels for Division 1 and 2 and Zone 1 and 2 areas. If the wet well or any other part of the station is classified, tell us at the start, so the panel is designed for it and for where it will be installed.
  • Short-circuit current rating. The panel's SCCR has to be adequate for the fault current available where it is installed. SCCR, explained →

Municipal projects and public bids

Municipal bid responses (ITB and RFP), mostly for water and wastewater, are regular work for the shop. For a bid, send the specification sections and drawings that cover the panels, any addenda, and the due date.

Factory acceptance testing to a customer's procedure is available. For projects with domestic-content requirements, we can assemble panels to Buy American and Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements.

Built, tested and documented

Panels are built in our Brookfield, Wisconsin shop under UL File E239160 and tested before they ship. Drawings are delivered as as-built packages, and each assembly carries a serial-numbered "Assembled by Gross Automation" tag.
