Motor control

Motor control panels: VFDs, soft starters, starters and MCCs

Our shop builds the panels that start, stop and control the speed of motors, from a single starter panel to repeat line-ups. Every motor control panel goes through the shop's UL 508A program.

VFD and drive panels

Variable-frequency drive (VFD) panels control motor speed for pumps, fans, conveyors and process machinery. We build them from small drives up to large horsepower. Danfoss is our core drive line, and we also build with ABB and WEG drives, or with the brand your specification names.

Drives can be programmed with your parameter set before the panel ships. Where drives create harmonics that a plant has to limit, the shop also builds harmonic-filter panels. Power-factor and harmonic-filter panels →

Soft-starter and starter panels

A soft starter brings a motor up to speed gradually, which reduces the inrush current and the mechanical shock of starting. Starter panels start motors across the line, or with reduced-voltage methods such as wye-delta.

Standard starter panels are also offered, preconfigured, under our Streamline product line: Streamline starter panels.

Motor control centers

We assemble motor control centers (MCCs), from a single line-up to repeat MCCs built in multiples for one program, with drawings, labeling and documentation to match.

Drive replacements and retrofits

When a drive goes out of production, we replace it with a current model and carry the programming over, with the aim of keeping the existing panel design. How we cross-referenced an obsolete drive for an equipment builder →

From the shop

For a drive manufacturer's factory test floor, we designed and built eight assemblies, including 690 V multi-drive test panels with contactor banks, wye-delta starting and mechanical interlocks. Our team programmed the PLC and HMI and commissioned the panels on site. Read the case study →

SCCR and motor control

Drives, starters and the fuses or breakers that protect them weigh heavily in a motor control panel's short-circuit current rating, so we choose those components with the required rating in mind. SCCR, explained →
